New road corridor will connect ZI and Querétaro without using Highway 57: Gallardo

Construction has begun simultaneously on a new road corridor and the third phase of the Alternative Route to the Industrial Zone, with the goal of improving mobility, strengthening logistics, and creating a new connection to Querétaro without relying on Federal Highway 57.

Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona announced that the new section is being developed by Grupo Meta, a subsidiary of the San Luis Potosí-based conglomerate Valoran. The corridor will extend more than 20 kilometers, running from Eje 140, at the rear of the Industrial Zone, to the La Pila district near Villa de Reyes.

The governor explained that the project is part of an investment exceeding 22 billion pesos that Grupo Valoran is carrying out in San Luis Potosí with its own resources. Meanwhile, the third phase of the Alternative Route will be financed by the state government to connect Eje 122 and Eje 140.

Once both projects are completed, motorists will be able to leave the metropolitan area through the southern part of the city, reach Villa de Reyes more quickly, and access the San Luis Potosí–Querétaro Highway through an alternative route.

The corridor will later connect with additional infrastructure projects being developed by Grupo Valoran, including a new phase of the Eastern Bypass (Libramiento Oriente) and the La Pila–La Pitahaya toll road, where construction has already progressed near the border between San Luis Potosí and Guanajuato.

According to Gallardo, the project will help divert long-distance traffic traveling from central Mexico toward the north, reducing dependence on Highway 57, one of the main transportation routes serving the metropolitan area.

As part of the overall infrastructure plan, the company is also building a micro-bypass that will connect the new corridor with the Villa de Reyes Industrial Zone, an area expected to experience significant growth in manufacturing activity and freight transportation.

The governor noted that the project could attract additional companies and new investments, making expanded transportation infrastructure essential to support future economic growth and logistics demands.

Alternative Route Will Expand Connectivity to Industrial Parks

The expansion and extension of the Alternative Route to the Industrial Zone will connect key areas of the metropolitan region, improve traffic flow, and strengthen San Luis Potosí’s logistics and industrial corridor.

This was emphasized by J. Guadalupe Torres Sánchez, head of the State General Secretariat, who said the project has been designed as both a practical traffic solution and a long-term infrastructure strategy by incorporating connections to major industrial parks and high-activity economic zones.

He explained that the planned route will extend to Highway 80, improving access to the WTC, Logistik I, and Logistik II industrial parks, making it easier for workers, freight carriers, and commercial traffic to travel throughout the region.

The Alternative Route will also connect with Highway 37, which links to the highway leading to Mexico City and continues toward Villa de Reyes, helping establish a strategic transportation corridor for continued industrial development.

In addition, the roadway is expected to connect with the new highway currently under construction toward Querétaro, providing additional travel options and alternative exits from the metropolitan area.

According to Torres Sánchez, these infrastructure projects respond to the demands created by industrial expansion and increasing traffic volumes, particularly at the main access points to the Industrial Zone.

He added that the project is part of a comprehensive infrastructure strategy being implemented during the current state administration, focused on modernizing key transportation routes, reducing travel times, and creating better conditions for companies to establish and expand operations in San Luis Potosí.

Finally, Torres Sánchez stated that completing the Alternative Route will strengthen San Luis Potosí’s position as a strategic hub for connectivity, mobility, and economic development.
