For the Easter holiday period, which will take place from March 30 to April 12, the municipality of Querétaro is expected to receive around 200,000 visitors, representing an economic impact of approximately 900 million pesos, according to estimates from the Ministry of Tourism.
The head of the agency, Mariana Ortiz, indicated that a 10% increase in tourists is projected for this period compared to last year. This, she said, would translate into an average hotel occupancy rate of 65%, although in the Historic Center it could reach 100%.
“The entire tourism sector is coordinating these activities because we believe that ultimately we all share the same mission: to attract more visitors, whether from outside the city or from Querétaro itself, so they can come and enjoy themselves and experience this coordination between different agencies,” she said.
Ortiz Cabrera emphasized that one of the main attractions of the season will be the Procession of Silence of the Diocese of Querétaro, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year and drew more than 20,000 spectators last year.
However, he highlighted that the Stations of the Cross reenactments in districts such as Félix Osores and Felipe Carrillo will also represent important events for the tourism sector, along with free tours offered by several tour operators on April 2nd in the Historic Center.
In this regard, he stated that the city of Querétaro seeks to position itself as a leading destination for religious tourism in the state, since currently the municipalities with the highest attendance at religious activities are El Marqués and Tolimán, which attract between 15,000 and 20,000 people to their Stations of the Cross processions.
“The visits we will have during Holy Week will also activate hotels, restaurants, businesses, other areas that can be sold in the historic center and we are one army that will be carrying out these activities,” he pointed out.
