The Mexican Alliance of Transportation Organizations (AMOTAC) will hold a massive nationwide blockade this Wednesday, June 24, on the country’s main federal highways, including the Mexico-Querétaro highway.

This was confirmed by the Secretary of Government of the State of Querétaro, Eric Gudiño Torres, who stated that the truckers’ mobilization will begin after 7:00 a.m.

“This is a demonstration that has been announced in all 32 states of the country, including, of course, Querétaro. It will begin at 7:00 a.m. on the country’s main federal highways,” he commented.

Closures are expected on Highway 57 and in the metropolitan area.

The Secretary explained that, according to the alliance, traffic will be closed on Federal Highway 57 near Palmillas, while in the metropolitan area of the state, demonstrations and blockades are expected near Papanoa.

“In the case of Querétaro, road closures and demonstrations are being announced (…) This is the demonstration that is taking place; there will surely be a presence in all 32 states of the country on all federal highways,” he commented.

This national mobilization stems from the lack of action and solutions to various problems faced by truckers in Mexico, including insecurity, excessive towing fees, and delays in the processing of paperwork by the federal government.

Negotiations with the Interior Ministry continue

Although negotiations were held this Tuesday with the Interior Ministry, Gudiño Torres said that the truckers confirmed this demonstration.

“I understand that they are still in negotiations at the Interior Ministry, where the national leader, Rafael Ortiz Pacheco, along with the vice president of this national organization, Omar Alejandro, are meeting today in Mexico City trying to reach an agreement. However, the information we have is that they will confirm this demonstration tomorrow,” he reported.
