The Querétaro Legislature approved a request to the Federal Government to regulate heavy-duty traffic on Federal Highway 57, in the San Juan del Río-El Marqués section, where road modernization works are being carried out.

The Plenary Session of the Querétaro State Legislature approved a request to the Federal Government’s Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) to establish temporary measures to limit the traffic of tractor-trailers and heavy-duty vehicles on the section of Federal Highway 57 currently being expanded and modernized, between the municipalities of San Juan del Río, Pedro Escobedo, and El Marqués.

Representative Sully Mauricio Sixtos emphasized the urgency of implementing this preventive measure, noting that, although Highway 57 is a strategic axis for national trade, it currently represents a high risk due to the remodeling works. “The continuous circulation of freight vehicles on this stretch of road, amidst machinery, lane reductions, and detours, significantly increases the risk of road accidents, endangering the safety and lives of thousands of people,” he stated.

The appeal, he emphasized, does not seek to confront the transportation sector, but rather to prevent tragedies and save lives through responsible actions. The proposal proposes a provisional and targeted measure, requesting the SICT to analyze mechanisms such as time restrictions, alternative detours, or specific regulations that would alleviate traffic without seriously affecting the national logistics chain.

The importance of Querétaro being a leader in the protection of life and road safety was emphasized. “The works are necessary, but they must be accompanied by responsible actions that mitigate their side effects. Today we have the opportunity to act before we regret,” he concluded.
