Querétaro invites you to experience a unique Holy Week on its Camino Iniciatico de Santiago (Initiatory Way of St. James), a route twinned with the historic Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
The Camino Iniciatico de Santiago de Querétaro is a 127-kilometer (800-mile) spiritual tourism and hiking route through the Sierra Gorda biosphere reserve of Querétaro, crossing four of its municipalities: Pinal de Amoles, Landa de Matamoros, Arroyo Seco, and Jalpan de Serra. It is divided into seven stages that connect Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns), Franciscan missions, and natural landscapes, offering a transformative experience of faith and a profound connection with nature.
This trail is ideal for those seeking adventure, culture, and spirituality, connecting the region’s colonial history with the figure of the Apostle St. James.
The mountain communities welcome hikers with authentic cuisine, traditional recipes, dishes made with local ingredients, homemade stews, salsas, and typical drinks prepared by traditional cooks.
