Through the Reverdecer Querétaro reforestation program, more than 7,700 trees have been planted in the municipality of Querétaro, of which more than 600 native species were planted in Cañada Bolaños, within the “El Tlacuache” ecological reserve.
In the framework of Mexican Tree Day and International Soil Conservation Day, Felipe Macías Olvera, mayor of Querétaro, attended the reforestation event, which was attended by state and municipal authorities, as well as 300 citizens.
This program seeks to improve the environmental conditions of the municipality, and this weekend, it is expected to reach 9,900 native trees planted in the capital through various initiatives.
Macías Olvera recognized the work of those who participated in the event and urged more people to join, emphasizing that the goal of planting more trees in the city is clear and ambitious.
He also emphasized that the purpose of the reforestation is to improve air quality, allowing water to be better absorbed and “so that we can live in a healthier and more pleasant environment for everyone.”
“Today, with the support of young volunteers and public officials from both levels of government, 600 trees will be planted here in the Tlacuache Reserve, and this is part of the larger strategy we are implementing together to protect our environment. As we stated, in the municipality of Querétaro, we are putting things in order to protect our natural areas and even increase the number of hectares of natural areas,” he noted.
The El Tlacuache ecological reserve is part of the proposed municipal protected natural area called Cañada Bolaños, which is expected to be declared soon. More than 600 native species of trees, such as argentinian, palo xixiote, ocotillo, palo dulce, and huizache, provided by Sedea and Fiqma, were planted.
The event was organized by the capital’s Environment Secretariat, in conjunction with the Querétaro Environmental Trust (Fiqma), and the state government through the Chief Official’s Office and the Secretariat of Agricultural Development (Sedea).
