Querétaro Mayor Felipe Fernando Macías Olvera noted that the state capital is experiencing the heaviest rainfall in the last eight years at the start of the rainy season and urged the population to be on alert because the downpours will continue in the coming days.
“We are experiencing the heaviest rainfall at the start of the rainy season in the last eight years. It will continue to rain. Let’s be on alert, in close communication, and the municipal government team and the state government are here working very hard on behalf of the people of Querétaro,” he said.
He also reported that after 72 hours of rain, the damage has been minor and no injuries have been reported. He also reported that all reports of damage to homes and vehicles have been addressed.
Three rescues due to rain in Querétaro in less than 24 hours
A man fell into the river in the municipality of Tolimán, and two women were trapped in their car in the Menchaca neighborhood.
During his supervisory tour, he visited the Peñuelas Drain where he explained that the strong current is due to the lowering of water from the reservoirs, which are already full due to the intensity of the rain.
He emphasized that they will carry out mitigation works in that area to prevent damage to homes.
“We will immediately carry out mitigation works to reduce runoff, and with great news, I want to inform you that in collaboration with the state and with the support of our governor, Mauricio Kuri, we will provide a significant amount of money, millions of pesos, to access this area of the city,” he said.
Constituyentes Distributor Sump Monitored in Corregidora
Josué Guerrero, the mayor of Corregidora, supervised the operation of this sump, which has been maintained.
Meanwhile, Francisco Ramírez Santana, the Civil Protection Coordinator for the municipality of Querétaro, emphasized that emergency teams will remain on alert in the face of the rains in the coming days. He asked the public not to go out unless necessary and to report any emergency situation to 911.
He indicated that the water flowing through the Peñuelas Drain comes from San José El Alto, Menchaca, and Peñuelas.
“We are conducting and continuing analyses of the pumping of the water bodies in the 5 Halcones area, where interventions will also be carried out, so that these runoffs, which initially converge naturally in this low-lying area of Peñuelas, can be better channeled,” he said.
The council member also visited the Los Molinos sump with the municipal public services and Civil Protection team, where he demonstrated how the municipality’s water, stormwater, and sanitation systems are dredged.
