Querétaro is experiencing a weather emergency after more than 48 continuous hours of intense rainfall, which has caused a sudden increase in the flow of rivers and streams, as well as severe flooding. As a direct consequence, five people have been rescued alive while trying to cross hazardous areas in different parts of the state.
One of the most dramatic rescues was captured on video in the Menchaca I neighborhood, where two women in a pickup truck were caught in a strong current that dragged their vehicle several meters. Querétaro emergency services, with support from Civil Protection, managed to reach the vehicle despite the dangerous conditions, managing to extract the women unharmed and bring them to safety after an intense maneuver.
In a similar incident in the Peñuelas neighborhood of Querétaro, a couple traveling in another vehicle became trapped in the middle of a road with heavy water. State Civil Protection Coordination personnel, along with municipal emergency teams, carried out a precise operation to remove the woman and man from the vehicle, subsequently transporting them to a safe location where they were evaluated.
Meanwhile, another incident related to the rains was reported in the municipality of Tolimán. A man who approached a riverbank fell into the water due to a landslide. He was dragged several meters before being reached and rescued in a more stable area, thus avoiding a possible greater tragedy.
Why does it continue to rain heavily in Querétaro?
The rains in Querétaro continue as a result of a system of low-pressure channels interacting with humid air from the Gulf of Mexico. This has intensified rainfall in the north, center, and east of the country, causing structural damage such as subsidence, sinkholes, and dam leaks in municipalities such as Colón and El Marqués. Therefore, the alert remains active for the entire region.
