Mexico-Querétaro train to be built 7 km per month

The federal government will begin construction of the Mexico-Querétaro train in April 2025 at a rate of 7 kilometers per month, Governor Mauricio Kuri González reported after it was announced that Claudia Sheinbaum’s government will allocate 30 billion pesos for the project during the coming year.

After meeting last Wednesday with the head of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, Jesús Antonio Esteva, the governor stressed that the federation continues in the study phase to design the comprehensive strategy for the project, which includes the release of right of way that the state must complete.

In this regard, he said that construction work will begin at various points along the route – which will comprise about 225 kilometers – although he revealed that the federal government’s intention is to finish the Querétaro section first.

“They told me that there will be several fronts so that they can get there, and what they told me is that they are taking 7 kilometers per month and they are going to open several fronts. The president, in the meeting we had, said that we would have to start with Querétaro so that it would be the first to finish because it was the most sustainable,” she said.

Regarding the stations, she mentioned that there are several sites within the proposals, and although she clarified that they are not yet defined, she affirmed that the federal government will seek to place them in urban areas to avoid conflicts in certain regions, as occurred with the residents of the Calesa colony when the train was announced during Enrique Peña Nieto’s six-year term.

Regarding the projects proposed to Claudia Sheinbaum for the entity, Kuri González announced that it will be in the month of December when the same president of the Republic will announce them. Meanwhile, she celebrated that in that same month, the rehabilitation of the San Juan del Río-Xilitla highway will begin through the Bachetón program.

“It is very bad (the highway), it had been two years since a federal cent was put into it. We had to get involved and the issue of what they call Bachetón in federal places is about to begin in December,” he said.

In addition, the governor spoke of his meeting with the Secretary of Education, Mario Delgado, to whom he requested extra resources for basic education institutions.

“We have many schools with many needs and of course we are asking for them, I hope to be able to get some extra resources,” he concluded.
