The Queretaro Hotel Association rejects the possibility that the violent events of Saturday, November 9 in the Historic Center have affected the hotel occupancy of the member establishments, since these registered an influx of more than 80 percent during the recent holiday weekend in the first square of the city.

Mónica Aguilar Torrentera, president of the Queretaro Hotel Association (AHQ) acknowledged that although they expected a low hotel occupancy due to what happened in a bar in the first square of the city, the situation was totally the opposite, since they registered an occupancy of up to 85 percent in the affiliated hotels in the Historic Center and 65 percent in those located outside of it.

When asked if there is fear in the hotel industry due to these issues of insecurity in the state, the president of the hotel industry acknowledged that the issue of security in both Querétaro and Mexico is a crucial point for the growth of tourism.

As to whether there is fear that hotel occupancy will decrease by the end of the year due to recent insecurity situations, Monica Aguilar reiterated the importance of this type of event not being a normal occurrence and recalled that reservations are not normally made well in advance by visitors, which is why they are a sector that grows daily.

“We do have our reservations that if violence continues to increase or increases, then there will be a decrease in occupancy, which is something we hope will not happen again,” she said.

The Queretaro Hotel Association will close the year with 56 member establishments, of which 88 percent are located in the state capital, while the rest are in municipalities such as San Juan del Río, Tequisquiapan and Ezequiel Montes.
