In the last 15 days, municipal and state authorities have closed 70 night establishments in Querétaro, as part of the operations following the recent violent events in a bar in the city.
This was reported by the Secretary of Government of the state, Carlos Alcaraz Gutiérrez, who stressed that these actions seek to guarantee compliance with current regulations and the safety of the population.
In a broader period, which covers 45 days, the closures add up to nearly 100 businesses, including bars, clubs and restaurants.
“What we are prioritizing is the tranquility of Querétaro residents and visitors. Beyond the hours, it is about creating safe spaces where people can live together with confidence,” said Alcaraz Gutiérrez.
The secretary explained that the closures respond to various non-compliances, such as lack of updated licenses, irregularities in Civil Protection permits and repeat offences.
“Some businesses are undergoing a more in-depth analysis for recurring violations of the regulations, and we will be in dialogue with those responsible so that they can regularize their situation,” he added.
Part of the operations includes identifying the real owners of the establishments. According to Carlos Alcaraz, work is being done to establish who the owners of the businesses are, leaving aside intermediaries or managers.
The lack of information on closures is worrying
“We want the owners to be directly involved in the processes and to assume the responsibility of operating under the established rules,” he said.
The secretary also mentioned that some businesses have voluntarily closed, a decision that will be reviewed by the authorities to understand their reasons.
He also emphasized that repeat offenders who constantly violate the regulations will not be granted future permits or flexibilities.
As for surveillance, work is being done on a comprehensive project that involves civil society to improve the supervision and regulation processes of these establishments.
“Transparency and accountability are priorities. Those businesses that regulate and take care of their operations will not only be protecting citizens, but also their workers and their assets,” the official stressed.
Municipal authorities, for their part, are evaluating additional measures to reinforce supervision, not only in establishments that sell alcohol, but also in other commercial areas.
Alcaraz Gutiérrez stressed that the operations will continue and reiterated that the main objective is to guarantee compliance with the regulations and the safety of all.
