After 10 weekends, the third edition of the Querétaro Experimental International Festival will come to an end this coming August 17.
This year, the festival featured 115 shows, of which 33 were projects by Querétaro artists. According to Teresa García Besné, head of the Culture Secretariat of the Municipality of Querétaro, between 8,000 and 7,000 people have attended each weekend to watch the concerts, plays and performances that have been held in the public squares of the Historic Center.
“Somos el Barrio” transcends to a festival in the United States
The importance of this project in the city lies in the understanding of the support that the artistic community requires for local production, said the secretary. “Providing Querétaro creators with the necessary tools to mount their shows is fundamental to understanding the development of culture in the state,” she said during a press conference.
At the moment it is unknown if the project will continue once the change of administration takes place; however, García Besné said that the Querétaro Experimental is a project that can always be improved and that the important thing is that it does not lose its essence.
Since its beginnings, the festival has sought to make culture more accessible to the Querétaro public by betting on unique and innovative proposals and making the public space the work stage. This edition had as headliners artists such as Porter, Paté de Fuá, Ácido Pantera, Duchamp Pilot, The Wolves, and Hércules and Love Affair (who will give a concert on August 17 at 9:30 p.m. in the Guerrero Garden).
This last weekend there will be 9 free events for the delight of the public. On Friday the 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the Andador Madero the artistic montage “¡Hasta cuando?” by the Fugite artistic laboratory will be held, directed by Alex Valdés, dancer and choreographer. The dance proposal invites spectators to immerse themselves in a conceptual journey so that they can question their own decisions, perceptions and ask themselves: does everything happen for a reason or do we simply go through everything without realizing it?
On Saturday, which is the last day of activities, there will be the performances “La Corriente Verde” by the company EnNingúnLugar, “Fortunato el diablo y la muerte” by the Folkloric Company of the Autonomous University of Querétaro and a second presentation of “¡Hasta cuando?”. The plays “Tamayo: El Infinito Cotidiano” and “Parrot contestatario” will also be performed. Finally, there will be musical presentations by Demondeath, Descartes a Kant and Hércules and Love Affair.
