On the morning of Wednesday, August 7, a strong operation was carried out in at least six points of the state of Querétaro by elements of the Navy (Semar) with which a criminal cell dedicated to arms trafficking from the United States and Canada was identified.

This group operated in the states of Querétaro, Guanajuato, Michoacán and Chihuahua.

During the operations, at least two homes and an alleged warehouse were seized, in four different points of the state.

In addition, six arrest warrants were executed and an arsenal was seized, with more than 100 weapons and ammunition for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces.

According to official information, the criminal cell, in addition to being dedicated to arms trafficking and sale, is linked to the crime of falsifying official documentation.

News about US armory

The administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that it will analyze whether to file an appeal or whether to take the lawsuit against US armories to other courts after it was dismissed by a judge in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported that it took note of the decision of the federal judge in Boston, Dennis Saylor, and that the next steps to follow will be analyzed in this

“It is important to highlight that Mexico’s lawsuit in Boston continues against two companies: Smith and Wesson and Interstate Arms. This decision does not affect the lawsuit against these two companies nor absolve the other six companies of responsibility,” the Foreign Ministry said on its social networks.

Judge Dennis Saylor ruled that the Mexican government’s $10 billion lawsuit against gun companies for facilitating gun trafficking into Mexico, where they end up for use by drug cartels, had jurisdictional issues, calling the companies’ connection “minimal at best.”

Saylor said the López Obrador administration had not shown that any firearms sold specifically in this state had caused it any harm even though the Mexican government says it was statistically likely that some firearms sold in Massachusetts would end up being illegally trafficked into the country.

The companies disassociated by the U.S. government are: Sturm, Ruger, Glock, Barrett Firearms Manufacturing; Colt’s Manufacturing Company; Century International Arms; and Beretta USA.
