Huimilpan celebrates its 495th anniversary

Huimilpan, one of the oldest towns in Querétaro, celebrated its 495th anniversary of its founding, led by the mayor, Juan Guzmán Cabrera, in the Garden of Lovers.

The event began with mariachi music and the participation of the state’s Music Band. The mayor presided over the formal ceremony, which consisted of honoring the flag, singing the national anthem and messages alluding to the celebration.

“I want to tell the people of Huimilpan to never forget their history, to never forget their past, because that man who forgets the past does not have and will not have a promising future.”

“Today Huimilpan is different, today Huimilpan thinks differently. That is why today I want to invite you to leave behind your commitment to get on a path that leads us to be better citizens. A path that we must not lose, because to deviate would be to go backwards.”

Likewise, a theater group participated in the event, recreating the founding of the region. Later, the Fénix Marching Band, a nationally and internationally recognized group made up of 70 young people from Puebla, performed a varied musical repertoire.

The municipal cultural center presented an artistic program, and finally closed with a popular dance by the group Máximo Estilo.

Thus, 495 years of history were celebrated in Huimilpan, since that July 10, 1529.
