A road accident was reported on the Mexico-Querétaro federal highway, near the El Colorado community, which involved a vehicle carrying American football players and staff from the Cuautitlán Izcalli Cobras Club.
The collision between a Suzuki brand vehicle and an ETN line bus in the center lane left at least three people dead and another 29 injured, some of them seriously.
The impact occurred after 5 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2023. The driver of the private white vehicle was accompanied by a woman, and they were advancing towards the City of Querétaro. He lost control of the vehicle and strayed into the opposite lanes, where it collided with the bus, which was traveling back to Mexico City after celebrating a football game.
The bus left the road and collided with the front of a funeral home. Due to the accident, authorities and motorists reported load in traffic, so it was recommended to look for alternative routes.
The National Guard, firefighters, the Regulatory Center for Medical Emergencies, as well as medical personnel and the Querétaro State Civil Protection Coordination attended the scene of the accident in order to provide medical care for the survivors. Preliminary versions reported that the woman who was traveling in the private vehicle died along with two passengers on the bus where the women’s football team was traveling.
After the corresponding expert reports, personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) carried out the removal of the three bodies to transfer them to the morgue to carry out the corresponding necropsies and determine the exact cause of their death.
It is reported that seven of the victims of the road accident are seriously injured and were rushed to a hospital for treatment. The remaining 21 did not present serious injuries.
Regarding the accident, Club Cobras reported that it regretted what happened through a statement: “Unfortunately we inform that today, after the return of the game of our intermediate category Women’s Flag in Querétaro, the transport in which said category was traveling along with the staff and some parents, he had a road accident.”
In the same way, they notified that members of their board of directors were in the place: “At the moment, members of our board of directors are in the place and thanks to the help of different instances, support is being provided to all the families involved”.
Likewise, Club Cobras thanked the support and messages of encouragement and informed that they would update the information at the appropriate time. They asked for prayers and collaboration to support the families affected by the accident. “Now you play on another grid, you are in another category. You are on the All-Star Roster. Now you belong to God’s team!” they stated.
Users of social networks offered their condolences and regretted what happened, among them Pablo Viruega, a commentator for the specialized sports medium ESPN, writing on his Twitter account: “My condolences to the relatives of Club Cobras de Cuautitlán Izcalli.”
