Real estate development in the capital shut down for violating environmental regulations

A housing development under construction in the northern part of the municipality of Querétaro was temporarily shut down for lacking a valid environmental impact authorization, according to information from the State Attorney’s Office for Environmental Protection and Urban Development (PEPMADU).

During the inspection, inspectors discovered that the project lacked the current environmental permit issued by the Ministry of Sustainable Development (SEDESU), a necessary requirement for carrying out this type of construction.

Given this situation, the Attorney’s Office ordered the “Total Temporary Closure” of construction activities, based on the Environmental Code of the State of Querétaro.

A clandestine dumpsite behind Ciudad del Sol was also closed.

The measure was applied after an inspection carried out by agency personnel, following several citizen complaints related to the work being done at the site.

Those responsible for the development have five business days to exercise their right to a hearing and present the corresponding documentation to rectify or refute the irregularities detected during the inspection.

This closure adds to other actions taken by the state environmental authority against real estate projects that have violated regulations related to environmental impact and urban development.

Earlier this year, the head of the State Environmental Protection Agency (PEPMADU), José Luis Peña Ríos, reported that four real estate developments in different municipalities, including Huimilpan, Corregidora, and El Marqués, had already been closed for lacking permits or failing to comply with conditions established in their permits.

The state agency maintained that inspections will continue as part of its oversight efforts to ensure that urban growth complies with current environmental regulations.
