In an interview with Publimetro Querétaro, Governor Mauricio Kuri explained the state’s tourism promotion strategy at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, considered one of the most important events in the sector worldwide. He noted that Querétaro’s participation in this event aims to position the state as a competitive destination for international tourism.
The governor reported that, as part of his agenda, he met with the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, with whom he discussed opportunities for tourism and cultural exchange. “It was a very open and cordial conversation, and we took the opportunity to invite her to visit Querétaro,” he commented, adding that there is a possibility that such a visit could take place during a future trip to Mexico.
Mauricio Kuri emphasized that Querétaro has successfully consolidated a positive image abroad, particularly in the industrial and automotive sectors, which they now seek to extend to the tourism sector. “Querétaro already has a well-earned reputation in the industrial sector, and today we are working to ensure its tourism potential is also recognized,” he stated.
During his participation in FITUR, the governor met with business leaders, tour operators, and airline representatives, who agreed that there are three key factors for boosting tourism: legal certainty, infrastructure, and promotion. In this context, Kuri pointed out that the state has logistical advantages, such as road and rail connectivity, an international airport, and proximity to the center of the country. “We have infrastructure, we have security, and now we are focused on promotion,” he emphasized.
In the interview, the governor also referred to the development of new tourism products, including the hiking route in the Sierra Gorda, inspired by the Camino de Santiago, with an approximate distance of 127 kilometers between Pinal de Amoles and Jalpan de Serra. He indicated that this project has generated interest among national and international visitors. “Many people ask us if it’s safe, and of course it is; the Sierra Gorda is one of the most peaceful regions,” he said.
Kuri emphasized that this type of nature and experiential tourism boosts the economy in mountain communities and generates direct benefits for the local population through lodging, food services, and community guides.
Finally, the governor pointed out that one of the challenges for tourism in Mexico is improving and communicating the perception of safety abroad. In the case of Querétaro, he indicated that the indicators allow the state to be presented as a reliable destination. “When we talk about Querétaro and show our figures, people feel more at ease, and that translates into tourism and investment,” he concluded.
