The state Secretary of Urban Development and Public Works, José Pío X Salgado Tovar, stated that there is currently no project to expand Highway 200 or to carry out complementary works in the Los Héroes area, where construction of the Mexico–Querétaro rail terminal is progressing.
Salgado Tovar reported that the state administration has not received official notifications from the Railway System Regulatory Agency or from the military engineers in charge of the project.
“We have no official notification; we don’t know what they are doing, nor do we know what needs they will require,” he stated.
The official noted that, if the rail station is built, it will be essential to coordinate efforts with the federal government and the metropolitan municipalities.
“We need to work together to establish connectivity, not only to the station, but as a city,” he emphasized.
When asked about the traffic situation in Los Héroes, where traffic has currently been reduced to one lane in each direction, Salgado Tovar admitted that the area faces a high degree of complexity.
“All areas have their own complexity. I think this is one of the complex areas. However, we will have to see what solutions the regulatory agency has proposed and how we work on that,” he explained.
Regarding the location of the terminal, he clarified that it will not be located in the old train station in the Historic Center, as it is a historical monument with ongoing cultural activities.
“The proposal is not in the monumental station, which is a historical monument, but a little further ahead… the new station is, in theory, to the west,” he indicated.
Finally, he insisted that the state will await the federal decision to determine the scope of the project and, if applicable, determine which mobility or public safety projects will be the responsibility of each level of government.
“First, we must establish what will be done, and then we must determine who will do it and with what resources,” he concluded.
