A tragic incident of violence occurred this Wednesday on the Querétaro-Irapuato highway, where two Federal Highways and Bridges (CAPUFE) workers were shot while traveling in a white Dodge Ram official truck.
The result was one officer dead and another seriously injured. According to reports, the attack occurred around 1:00 p.m. near the Amexhe community, in the municipality of Apaseo el Grande.
An armed group allegedly chased them from a moving vehicle and fired at them; they even got out of the car to continue the attack at close range.
After the attack, drivers who witnessed the shooting alerted the 911 Emergency System, which allowed the rapid arrival of National Guard personnel and paramedics.
Upon inspecting the official vehicle, they found one of the workers seriously injured and his colleague with no vital signs. The victims were assigned to the federal highway administration area.
CAPUFE issued an informational statement confirming the unfortunate death of one of its employees and the critical condition of the other.
The institution reported that it has contacted the families of both employees to offer them all necessary support. “We extend our sincere condolences and solidarity to their loved ones, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” the statement emphasized.
Meanwhile, the relevant authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the motive for the attack and locate those responsible, who managed to escape despite a highway operation deployed by the National Guard after the attack.
This violent incident has caused consternation among CAPUFE staff and users of the Querétaro-Irapuato highway, one of the busiest in the country.
Motorists have demanded greater security for those traveling on this road, who face risks daily.
“I hope what’s happening now makes them aware of what all truck drivers and private individuals experience on the roads. When a @GN_Carreteras is needed, no one is there, or worse, when the driver tries to defend himself from robberies, they protect the criminal even more,” commented one social media user.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to clarify the crime and bring those responsible to justice.
