Thanks to recent rains, the storage level in Querétaro’s dams has reached 78% of their total capacity, according to the most recent report from the National Water Commission (CONAGUA). Of the 26 main dams and reservoirs in the state, 14 are already 100% full, with no controlled releases or emergency actions required so far.

The water report details that 160.97 million cubic meters of water are currently stored, out of a total available capacity of 206.48 million. Among the bodies of water that are already completely full are Santa Catarina, Pirules, El Zapote, Jesús María, San José, and El Cajón, among others.

Despite these high levels, the Querétaro State Civil Protection Coordination has not issued specific alerts, although it has reinforced preventive actions in coordination with municipal authorities and emergency services. The work includes drain cleaning, channel monitoring, and immediate attention to risk points.

In the metropolitan area, a 50% chance of rain is forecast, while CONAGUA warns of possible showers that could leave accumulations of between 5 and 25 millimeters. These conditions could cause rivers and streams to rise, as well as puddles or flooding in vulnerable areas. Furthermore, some dams still have low water levels.

This is the case of the Santiago Mexquititlán dam in Amealco, which is barely at 10.7% of its capacity, and the San Rafael dam in Huimilpan, which is at 31.3%. The El Batán dam in Corregidora—key to regional water supply—is reported at 44.4%. Civil Protection reiterated its call to the public to stay informed through official sources, avoid spreading rumors, and cooperate with basic preventive measures, such as not littering in public spaces or approaching bodies of water during storms.
