On June 9, the French tire manufacturer Michelin announced the closure of its plant in Querétaro by the end of 2025.

In a statement on social media, the company explained the reason for the tire factory’s closure.

“The company has made the decision to halt production at the Querétaro plant to give management time, this week, to engage in collective discussions with employees,” the company stated.

Businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego reacted to the incident, which surprised internet users.

Using the X platform, the founder of Grupo Salinas stated that “it will become increasingly common for investors to take their money out of the country.”

“What will happen to those workers at those plants?” he asked.

In addition, the owner of TV Azteca proposed creating “welfare tires, subsidized by the state.” “I have a brilliant idea: we should build a tire factory 100 times larger, subsidized by the state, and call it ‘welfare tires,’ managed by the company (she’s a tire expert), except the factory should make smaller tires.”

Finally, he suggested making “some for the Mexican electric car, the Olinia, which they’re almost starting to sell.”
