This Sunday, the “largest social support program in the history of the city of Querétaro” launched, according to Mayor Felifer Macías, who distributed the first cards for the “El Extra” program, which will benefit thousands of Querétaro residents in vulnerable situations.

“I am very happy because today marks the start of this great social program, the most ambitious our city has ever had,” said Mayor Felifer Macías during his address, emphasizing that this effort responds to the goal of organizing the municipal budget to cover the most urgent and necessary needs.

The “El Extra” program aims to provide monthly financial support of one thousand pesos to various sectors of the population, including people with permanent disabilities, students at public and private universities, caregivers, and salaried and self-employed workers earning less than 12 thousand pesos per month.

For his part, the municipality’s Secretary of Social Development, Juan José Ojeda, stated that more than 70,000 applications have been received, which are being validated both in the system and through home visits, ensuring that support reaches only those who truly need it. “Today we are complying with a very clear instruction: to address the needs of citizens without delay. Needs don’t wait, and neither do the people of Querétaro,” he emphasized.

Ojeda thanked the City Council members, who with their vote approved a historic budget for social programs, thus allowing the launch of this initiative. “Thanks to the mayor’s leadership and the support of the City Council, we are here today, fulfilling our promise.”

During the event, the first cards were symbolically delivered to representative beneficiaries of the program’s various subgroups: Marta Elena Álvarez Santoyo, Luis Ángel Pérez Vázquez, Regina Ruiz Medina, Ángeles Papiaz Medina, Sandra Nicolás Vega, and Reina Adilión Pacheco.

The mayor reiterated his commitment to being a mayor present on the streets, listening and directly addressing the needs of the population. “It’s not enough to be on the streets if you don’t deliver results (…) This administration is the most street-oriented and approachable in the history of Querétaro, and that is reflected in actions like this,” he stated.

Finally, he called on the beneficiaries to remember that this support represents support from the municipality in difficult times, concrete help to cover essential expenses such as rent, groceries, or medications. “This is a grain of sand, an ‘extra,’ as we call it, so that no one is left behind in this city that continues to advance,” he concluded.

This program not only represents financial support but also a commitment to closeness and constant work on the part of the municipal government. “The only way for a mayor to be aware of problems is to be on the streets and not behind a desk,” the mayor emphasized.

This initiative is an investment in the future of Querétaro, to build a city “with order, with direction, and for the best Querétaro in history,” Macías concluded.
