The state of Querétaro has a portfolio of 50 private investment projects that, if realized, would represent capital of approximately 80 billion pesos, according to records from the Ministry of Sustainable Development (Sedesu).

These are projects of which the state agency is aware, but they are not confirmed investments, as they are in the process of being processed.

Of these, 36 are new investments and 14 are expansions; together they represent between 17,000 and 18,000 potential jobs, stated the head of Sedesu, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero.

In parallel with this portfolio, 24 projects have been confirmed during 2025, representing 4,000 new jobs.

Among the projects completed this year, the recent announcement of the expansion by the Malasa Group, a furniture manufacturer, stands out, which will double its production capacity in Querétaro.

The Spanish group’s expansion was announced during the Querétaro delegation’s tour of Madrid, Spain, the previous week.

During the tour, the state secretary shared, the Querétaro mission met with business organizations and company representatives to present the state as an investment destination.

“To showcase what Querétaro can offer, (the meeting) was with different companies and clusters, business organizations with whom we presented the state and possibly brought investment projects to Querétaro. What we wanted was to also make it known that Querétaro is present, that today it will be better connected to Europe and Spain, and that this will motivate investment to come to Querétaro,” he expressed.

As part of the tour, he also mentioned the agreement signed by the state government with Santander; the institution, through its International Desk division, will allow Querétaro to be mentioned as an investment option for the bank’s clients, in addition to connecting Mexican companies to do business in Spain.

“(The agreement) will enable Santander client companies that approach us for a loan to explore investment options outside of Spain to reference us as an investment destination. (…) It’s a very strong promotional mechanism for the state,” he stated.

Speaking about the results of the tour, he also mentioned the meeting with representatives of Grupo Mondragón, who are seeking to increase their presence in Mexico through Querétaro. They also held a meeting with executives from Sanitas, an insurance company that plans to increase its presence in Mexico.

Flight will boost trade and tourism
The main objective of the trip, he noted, was to promote the Madrid-Querétaro flight, which Iberojet will operate starting next October.

The new route will accommodate approximately 20,000 travelers per year, which will translate into economic benefits for the Mexican state.

“Attracting new tourists to Querétaro generates economic benefits for all sectors, from transportation to restaurants, hotels, and service providers. It is estimated that nearly 20,000 new tourists will arrive each year via these two flights,” he stated.

The flight will also boost cargo transportation between both destinations, in addition to providing air connections for passengers headed to Europe, through the collaboration between Iberojet and Air Europa.
