With the aim of positioning the state as a tourist destination for the global market, Querétaro began its participation in the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2025 in Madrid, Spain.
As part of the state’s participation, a pavilion was set up to promote local gastronomy, according to information from the state government.
During the first day of the fair, the delegation of state public servants participated in the inauguration of the Mexican pavilion.
Governor Mauricio Kuri González inaugurated the Querétaro gastronomic pavilion, inside the fair; in this space traditional dishes from the state will be displayed and offered.
Also, the president of the Royal Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy, Rafael Ansón Oliart, presented the governor with a document that designates Querétaro as the Ibero-American Capital of Encounter Gastronomy, the state government reported in a press release.
As part of the agenda for the first day of Fitur, there was also a meeting with the president of the International Social Tourism Organization (ISTO), Isabel Novoa, where the idea was to continue a strategy to promote this aspect of tourism in Querétaro, promoting care for communities and sustainability.
The president of the International Association for Tourism Cooperation (Asicotur), Alejandro Rubín Carballo, presented a diploma recognizing the Camino Iniciático de Santiago tourism project in Querétaro, which is expected to begin operations in the middle of this year. This tourism product will connect various attractions located in the state’s Sierra Gorda.
During the fair, the state secretary of Tourism, Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado, received two Excelencias Turísticas awards, for the International Strategy to Promote Gastronomic Tourism and for the Fashion Days event.
Likewise, the state signed a collaboration agreement with the Valladolid City Council to strengthen its alliance, in addition to promoting tourism and gastronomy in both regions; thus, Querétaro will continue to host the National Pinchos and Tapas Competition Mexico until 2027.
Through Querétaro’s participation in Fitur 2025, the aim is to position the entity as one of the main travel destinations internationally, according to the state government.
The International Tourism Fair will be held from January 22 to 26 in Madrid, it is a forum to promote and learn about both products and tourist destinations; 9,500 companies are participating in this edition, 156 countries are present and there are 884 exhibitors.
Tourism activity
In 2024, tourism generated 30 billion pesos in Querétaro, reflecting an increase of 36.4% compared to the previous year, according to records from the state Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).
It also received 7.5 million tourists and excursionists, registering a growth of 17%, according to preliminary data. That year, the entity closed with a hotel occupancy rate of over 60% on average, slightly above the end of 2023.
