The Magical Town of Bernal has become a place where micheladas and azulitos are sold non-stop. Tourists crowd the streets asking for beers with lemon and chili, or the classic curaçao drink. Although alcohol consumption is not allowed in public, this does not seem to stop anyone.
Known for its majestic Peña and its tourist attraction, this town located in the municipality of Ezequiel Montes, has experienced a notable change in recent seasons.
Although the consumption of alcohol in public is prohibited, the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages has increased in different areas of the town, especially in the streets near the most visited tourist spots.
Use of trails to the Peña de Bernal will be regulated
Currently, there are two trails in the Peña: one intended for tourism and another used by climbers
Micheladas, azulitos and other alcoholic beverages such as beers with lemon and chili, are the most popular options for tourists who visit the place.
At various points in the area, the sale of these drinks is carried out constantly, which has generated an atmosphere where the sale of alcohol seems to be an integral part of the tourist experience in Bernal.
Despite local restrictions, which prohibit the consumption of alcohol in public spaces, tourists continue to enjoy their drinks on the streets without any intervention from local authorities. Visitors not only enjoy these drinks while walking, but also in recreational vehicles, such as ATVs and razers.
These situations, which have become increasingly common, occur mainly during weekends and during high tourist seasons.
Mayor Iván Reséndiz announces regulation of commerce and tourist activities in the Magical Town
The increase in alcohol consumption on public roads has generated some reactions among the locals and inhabitants of Bernal. While some merchants benefit from the tourist flow that this behavior generates, others are concerned about how the image of the town may be affected.
Although not all residents share the same opinion, several say that the town is losing part of its traditional character due to the proliferation of alcohol consumption in the streets.
