Google has announced the opening of its new data region in Querétaro, which is set to generate over 100,000 jobs and significantly boost the local economy. This new region is Google’s third in Latin America, joining São Paulo, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile, and is the 41st worldwide.
Economic Impact
During a press conference, Google revealed that the new infrastructure is expected to create more than 100,000 direct and indirect jobs and contribute $11 billion to Mexico’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030.
The new Google Cloud region in Querétaro will provide cutting-edge technology to support digital transformation, including:
– Speed: Faster data transfers and low latency.
– Security: Compliance with local regulations, including those of the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV).
– Sustainability: Low-carbon footprint operations, aligned with Google’s global goals for 2030.
– Capacity: Scalability to meet the growing demands of users and companies.
Talent Development
Google Cloud has also announced initiatives to develop local talent. They are collaborating with over 550 universities in Latin America to train students in cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Additionally, they have committed to training one million Mexicans in digital skills in the coming years.
Programs such as “Get on the Cloud,” in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and Grow with Google’s certification scholarships are part of the effort to democratize access to advanced technologies. In the last 24 months, more than 14,000 digital skills badges have been awarded to students and developers in Mexico.
Strengthening the Ecosystem
With this new region, Google Cloud aims to improve connectivity and strengthen its global ecosystem of partners, which includes over 100,000 companies. Notable partners include Prosa, which processes billions of financial transactions annually, and Palo Alto Networks, which develops advanced cloud security solutions.
