UNESCO recognizes Querétaro with the Learning City Award

The UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities has awarded 10 cities with the Learning City Award, including the city of Querétaro.

The 10 cities awarded with the UNESCO Learning City Award were: Benguerir, Morocco; Bouaké, Ivory Coast; Cork, Ireland; Cuenca, Ecuador; Doha, Qatar; Eunpyeong-gu, Republic of Korea; Glasgow, Northern Ireland; Querétaro, Mexico; Wuhan, China; Yanbu Industrial City, Saudi Arabia.

This network is made up of 356 cities from 79 countries, home to 390 million people, which have the capacity to connect educational, training and cultural institutions, and also involve various partners, including representatives of the public sector, civil society organizations and employers.

Querétaro’s approach to lifelong learning is grounded in social justice and inclusion, and driven by collaboration between diverse stakeholders. The Learning City initiative, supported by the Querétaro Learning City Development Council created in 2021, focuses on co-creating and promoting lifelong learning programs.

Focusing on the most vulnerable neighborhoods, the learning city plan includes 40 projects, 28 of which are public programs tailored to lifelong learning principles.
From reopening cultural centers to implementing innovative environmental initiatives, Querétaro reached more than 1.7 million participants in 2023, demonstrating its commitment to empowering communities through education.
