In 2025, the Querétaro – Madrid flight could open, which would generate a significant economic boost for the Querétaro entity, as reported by the Secretary of Tourism of Querétaro, Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado.
She indicated that there would be a possibility of offering the flight with two airlines that currently work and operate at the Querétaro Intercontinental Airport (AIQ), however she preferred not to give further details; she added that the procedures and agreements to be able to generate this flight depend on the negotiations generated by the AIQ and the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SEDESU), since the Secretariat of Tourism (SecTur) only supports with specific data on tourism matters.
“It is a possibility that is being considered, the truth is I doubt it can happen this year but we are looking for it to happen by 2025, both the AIQ and the SEDESU are those who are helping us to make this and other flights a reality, we as SecTur only add tourist data that can help the negotiation (…) there are two airlines that could help us generate the flight, but I prefer to wait for the negotiations to advance to have more information,” he said.
Vega Vázquez Mellado added that the Querétaro-Madrid flight could be achieved due to the advantages that the state of Querétaro and its airport have, among which he highlighted the central location, since both by air and by land, Querétaro can connect with different relevant cities such as Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey at a distance of less than 3 hours.
“One of the advantages that Querétaro has is its geographical position and that of course has to be taken advantage of, its location allows us to be less than 3 hours either by air or by land from important destinations in the country such as Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City and that is one of the things that Madrid likes regarding the connectivity that the airport has,” she mentioned.
Finally, the head of SECTUR highlighted that the summer season has left good impressions in the tourist area for the Querétaro entity, so she hopes that economic expectations will be exceeded.
“We are doing well, the reality is that we hope that expectations will be exceeded by the holiday season,” she said.
