It is necessary that the next municipal governments of Querétaro, which will begin work on October 1, consider a larger budget for their risk management areas, as considered by Javier Amaya Torres, who is the state coordinator of Civil Protection.
He acknowledged that some municipalities, despite having a high incidence of risks, have little personnel or their equipment is insufficient; therefore, when a crisis situation occurs, they must rely on the emergency services of other municipalities.
He assured that in Querétaro there is comprehensive coordination; however, to the extent that each municipality is better prepared, its reaction to safeguard lives will be more efficient.
“I would ask the newly elected presidents to seek to invest more in their Civil Protection areas because security is not only the police. The risk management areas are those that deal with matters related to prevention (…) there are municipalities that have good personnel but do not have equipment or vice versa.”
Javier Amaya Torres stressed that in terms of Civil Protection, it is important that, from the municipal level, training is also promoted for citizens in order to create brigades that participate with knowledge about dealing with risk situations.
He explained that there have been cases in which the enthusiasm of citizens can generate greater risk and in this sense it is necessary to always work under the coordination of Civil Protection.
