The State Government of Querétaro is just days away from imposing new sanctions on notary offices that have failed to fulfill their obligations; these penalties could range from formal reprimands to the permanent revocation of their licenses.
Eric Gudiño Torres, the Secretary of Government, reported that following a review process and the verification of internal procedures, specific cases have already been identified in which the parties failed to rectify existing irregularities.
“We are—I believe—just days away from being able to announce a series of sanctions ranging from formal reprimands all the way to the actual revocation of notary licenses,” he noted.
He indicated that, during the current administration, one notary has already been sanctioned with a suspension; however, he warned that additional cases involving offices in various municipalities across the state could emerge in the coming weeks.
“At this moment, we have the authority to revoke a notary license, as well as to impose other sanctions ranging from formal reprimands and suspensions to monetary fines,” he affirmed.
He explained that the irregularities detected include the failure to deliver property deeds, non-compliance with tax obligations, and deficiencies in customer service—issues that persisted despite prior processes established to correct such shortcomings.
“The problem is that they are failing to deliver the deeds; the reality is that, ultimately, they are vested with public authority and must fulfill their obligations,” he stated.
Gudiño Torres highlighted that there is ongoing coordination with the Council of Notaries, though he acknowledged that a small group has failed to respond adequately, thereby compelling the authorities to intervene. He noted that these actions are intended to ensure legal certainty for the public and to improve notarial services throughout the state.
