More than 1,850 citations for unregistered transportation services have been issued so far during the current state administration, in an effort to curb the operation of unlicensed taxis and ride-hailing platforms in Querétaro.
The head of the Querétaro State Mobility Agency (AMEQ), Gerardo Cuanalo, explained that these sanctions are part of a strengthened inspection effort to guarantee safe conditions for passengers.
“In this administration, we have issued a little over 1,850 citations for all types of unregistered transportation services,” he stated.
He detailed that the fines for this type of service reach almost 80,000 pesos and include the impoundment of the vehicle.
“The penalty for unregistered service amounts to almost 80,000 pesos, and the vehicle is impounded,” he specified.
The official stated that currently only Uber and Didi are formally registered with AMEQ, which allows for direct communication in the event of any incident or citizen report.
“Today, we only have two platforms that are fully registered with the agency: Uber and Didi. Any concerns we’ve had regarding any user have been clarified through direct communication with them,” he commented.
In contrast, platforms like InDriver began their registration process but did not complete it, while others like BlaBlaCar and Cabify have not engaged with the state authority.
“For us, a platform that is not registered and provides the service is considered an irregular service,” he explained.
Cuanalo emphasized that combating irregular transportation is primarily driven by two factors: the safety of users and ensuring that both vehicles and drivers meet the necessary requirements to provide the service.
