Motorists traveling from Querétaro to Guanajuato are facing severe traffic disruptions due to renewed blockades by farmers on Federal Highway 45, the Irapuato-Salamanca section, near the Fourth Brigade.
Authorities are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution, avoid the area, and take alternate routes, as the closure affects both directions and could last for several hours. Long lines and stopped traffic are reported at various points.
The Farmers’ Movement resumed its protests after failing to reach an agreement on the base price for corn. Producers claim that processors are seeking to pay 4.70 pesos per kilo for the grain, below what they consider a fair price.
The protesters warned that if their demands are not met, they will extend the blockades into Querétaro, Michoacán, and Jalisco, which could cause a regional traffic gridlock in the Bajío industrial corridor.
Road authorities recommend that residents of Querétaro planning to travel to Irapuato, Salamanca, or León check road conditions before leaving, allow extra time, and avoid driving on Federal Highways 45 and 45D.
