Querétaro under US travel alert level 2

The U.S. State Department updated its travel advisory for Mexico on Tuesday, placing Querétaro in the “increased caution” category (level two), along with 15 other states, including Mexico City. The measure is part of Washington’s periodic security assessment of its citizens abroad.

In the new update, the U.S. government recommends “no travel” to Sinaloa, Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, Zacatecas, and Tamaulipas due to violence attributed to criminal groups and kidnappings of U.S. citizens and permanent residents. It also advises “reconsidering travel” to eight states, including Baja California, Jalisco, and Guanajuato.

Querétaro, along with states such as Puebla, Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Nuevo León, is placed in level two, which requires additional vigilance during travel due to security risks. Although the advisory does not prohibit travel to the state, it does suggest that American visitors plan their trips carefully and remain aware of their surroundings.

In contrast, Campeche and Yucatán were the only Mexican states classified as level 1, meaning that, according to Washington, their visitors can take “normal precautions.” This classification makes them the safest destinations for American tourists in the country.
