The deaths of two Mexicans from Querétaro have been confirmed following unusual flooding in Texas.

José Olvera and Alicia Torres, an elderly Mexican couple, were found dead in recent hours following an intense search by police in Texas, United States, following the unprecedented flooding caused by a storm on July 4th. According to the latest report, the victims were originally from the state of Querétaro and had lived in the United States with their children and family for over 30 years. The most recent report indicates that José and Alicia were found in the town of Saucillo, in the municipality of Jalpan de Serra.

José Olvera was 68 years old, born in the community of Petzcola, and was reported missing along with his wife, Alicia Torres, after the Guadalupe River overflowed its banks. The river is located very close to Kerrville County, one of the areas hardest hit by the floods.

Eric Gudiño Torres, Secretary of Government of Querétaro, was the person in charge of confirming the discovery of the Mexican couple who had been living in the United States for more than three decades. According to the official’s report, the repatriation of the bodies will take place in the coming hours.

Hours after José Olvera’s body was found, the family members still hoped to find Alicia Torres, so the search remained active. However, hours later, Texas authorities reported the discovery of her body, a situation that was reported to the Mexican Consulate.

In light of the discovery of the two Mexicans, the Querétaro government, led by Mauricio Kuri González, confirmed that it will provide all necessary assistance and support to the families to complete the necessary documentation and repatriation procedures. According to Secretary Eric Gudiño Torres, so far no family members of the elderly couple in Mexico have reached out to request support.

The latest report from Texas authorities, led by Greg Abbott, details that 110 people have been confirmed dead and 161 are still missing. In Kerr County alone, flooding has killed 57 adults and 30 children.
