It will take place from May 16 to 18, 2025, in Plaza Constitución, with the participation of 26 artists who will present their art in real time and interact with the audience.

The call for entries to participate in QroMa will close on May 4.

The Secretary of Culture of Querétaro (SECULT), Ana Paola López Birlain, announced that the first edition of the QroMa Arte en Piso Festival will take place from May 16 to 18, 2025, in Plaza Constitución, Querétaro’s capital. This space will become a living gallery where, under the theme “La Huasteca,” a tribute will be paid to a region deeply rich in identity, color, and symbolism.

In a press conference, the head of SECULT commented that the festival revives the tradition of the Italian Madonnari, which adapts to the heart of Querétaro, transforming concrete into ephemeral art and bringing citizens closer to the artistic process in real time.

“QroMa will be a visual and symbolic prelude to what we will experience in October, when Querétaro hosts the twenty-eighth edition of the Huasteca Festival, a gathering that will unite six states through music, dance, gastronomy, languages, and ancestral knowledge,” he noted.

López Birlain explained that the artists who will participate in QroMa 2025 will be selected through the call for applications, which can be found at queretaro.gob.mx/documents and will close on May 4.

He emphasized that cultural projects don’t happen on their own, but rather when there is will, dialogue, and teamwork, for which he acknowledged and expressed his gratitude for the constant and committed collaboration of the Secretariats of Culture and Tourism of the municipality of Querétaro, and the State Tourism Secretariat.

At the event, the Secretary of Culture of the Municipality of Querétaro, Daniela Salgado Márquez, indicated that during QroMa, attendees will enjoy the entire creation process of the works, from the first stroke to the final result, interacting with the artists and discovering the narrative power of urban art.

She said that 26 local and national artists are expected to participate, creating the works from May 16 to 18, 2025, in Plaza Constitución, a space that will become a large canvas during that time. The goal is to bring the public closer to urban art through a creative process, promoting a direct, participatory, and accessible experience, where the ground becomes a canvas that dialogues with identity, territory, and tradition.

Festival organizer Abraham Burciaga explained that Mexicans and foreigners residing in the Mexican Republic, ages 18 and older, are eligible to participate. Each participant will have a space assigned on the floor measuring 2.00 x 2.00 meters, where they will create a painting using pastel chalk.

He added that the selection committee will be composed of specialists in the visual arts, specialized in public art, and the list of selected participants will be published on May 6th through the social media and websites of the Querétaro State and Municipal Culture Secretariats.

The conference was attended by Sheila Caballero Nuño, representing the State Secretary of Tourism, Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado, and by Manuel Aguado Romero, representing the head of Tourism for the Municipality of Querétaro, Daniela Salgado Márquez.

Se llevará a cabo del 16 al 18 de mayo de 2025 en la Plaza Constitución, con la participación de 26 artistas que plasmarán su arte en tiempo real y convivirán con el público asistente.
