The municipality of Querétaro, led by Mayor Felipe Fernando Macias Olvera, will launch three new social programs to support the population of the Querétaro capital. These programs have already been approved by the city council, and the call for applications will be released in the coming days.

The head of the Secretariat of Social Development, Juan José Ojeda Dorantes, explained that “El Extra” consists of providing cards with financial support of one thousand pesos per month to 50,000 beneficiaries. These beneficiaries can include university students from public and private schools, people with permanent disabilities, athletes, caregivers for people with chronic illnesses or disabilities, and salaried workers with incomes under 12,000 pesos. They must be residents of the municipality, between 18 and 55 years of age, and not be beneficiaries of similar programs.

This support will have restrictions such as not being able to purchase alcohol or tobacco, not being able to make deposits or transfers to the card they will receive, and the account will not be considered a savings account.

Regarding “Housing in Action,” this is a program to provide support to vulnerable populations to improve and equip their homes with solar heaters, water tanks, eco-friendly stoves, among others. It will also be provided primarily to vulnerable neighborhoods designated by federal institutions such as the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

“Civil Society in Action” is a program to strengthen collaboration among civil society organizations to promote projects that promote social development in the capital of Querétaro. The requirements are that the organization be legally constituted and registered with the federal taxpayer registry.

The calls for applications for these three social programs are not yet available, but authorities indicated that they will be public in the coming days.
