The municipal president of Querétaro, Felifer Macías, announced the beginning of a new stage in citizen security in the city with the creation of the Civic Guard, where Queretaro residents interested in being part of this innovative public security model are invited, focused on proximity and strengthening the social fabric and responding to the need for greater police presence and better mechanisms for preventing neighborhood conflicts for the peace of mind of Queretaro families.
“With this new Civic Guard, which is a new model of much more expeditious training, it will allow us in the next quarter of 2025 to have a very significant increase in police elements in the squares, in the streets, providing tranquility and security,” he commented.
Felifer Macías highlighted that the Civic Guard will be equipped with vehicles, intercom radios, bodycams, and non-lethal instruments of deterrence and containment, which will provide a more effective presence in public spaces and close contact with citizens. In addition, it seeks to promote harmonious coexistence and prevent conflicts that may escalate into criminal acts. Its members will receive specialized training in mediation, alternative mechanisms for dispute resolution, and preventive measures to address behaviors that disrupt social peace, such as substance use in public spaces.
He added that this effort represents a new era in the security of Querétaro, with a stronger, more numerous, and closer Municipal Guard. While the Municipal Police will continue as the elite body in charge of strategic operations, the Civic Guard will act as a direct link with Queretaro families, in squares, parks, schools and neighborhood meetings. Based on the State Security Law and national standards, this new corporation seeks to increase the number of operational elements on the streets for the first quarter of 2025, and contribute to a safer Querétaro with a future.
The Secretary of Public Security, Juan Luis Ferrusca Ortiz, reported that the call to join the new Civic Guard is now open and people between 21 and 50 years old with a minimum of secondary school studies and residence in Querétaro can participate. In addition, applicants must pass confidence tests and a specialized initial training process that will take place from May to August 2025. During this training period, those selected will receive a monthly scholarship of 10 thousand pesos, as well as access to a cafeteria, psychological and nutritional services, equipment and a uniform. Upon completion of their training, members of the Civic Guard will obtain a permanent position in the Municipality, with an initial monthly salary of 15 thousand pesos and full benefits.
