What are the Creative Industries?, a new sector in Querétaro

The head of the Secretariat of Culture of the State of Querétaro (Secult), Ana Paola López Birlain, announced today the creation of the Creative Industries Cluster with the objective of generating greater opportunities and inclusive cultural policies aimed at the artistic sector of Querétaro, but what does this sector consist of?

According to the reform approved by the Executive Branch on October 11, this sector is defined as “those dedicated to the production, promotion, dissemination or commercialization of goods and services of cultural, artistic or heritage content” and are considered fundamental for the development of the social fabric and the revitalization of urban spaces.

Its incorporation into the “Law for Culture and the Arts of the State of Querétaro” was proposed and promoted on June 18 by Ana Paola López Birlain, who was then the president of the board of directors of the LX Legislature of the State of Querétaro, and the deputy Maricruz Arellano Dorado.

In the document presented to the Executive Branch, the officials argued that it was relevant to incorporate the recognition of this sector because the entity has more than 2 thousand companies focused on the fields of digital design and architecture, which have generated around 18 thousand jobs.

“The objective is to build an increasingly united and plural society, where each individual can contribute their unique ideas and perspectives. This collective enrichment is essential to counteract the trends of intellectual and cultural impoverishment imposed, many times, by opaque decisions and anonymous authorities, since creativity not only implies leaving the comfort zone to connect with new lines of thought, but also addressing problems and challenges in completely innovative ways and adapted to the current environment,” is expressed in the document published in La Sombra de Arteaga.

By definition, creative industries also include the publishing, audiovisual, phonographic (companies specializing in the recording and distribution of sound media), visual and performing arts, entertainment, tourism and tangible and intangible cultural heritage, artistic and cultural education, design, advertising, multimedia content, among others.

The presentation of the Cluster was made in the company of Governor Mauricio Kuri González within the space “Contigo Informamos”.
