In early July, FC Barcelona announced the establishment of its second Barça Academy in Mexico, located in Querétaro, following the first one in Mexico City, which began operations in January 2020. The official inauguration has now taken place, with Sergi Barjuan, former player and manager and now sporting director of Barça Academy, officially launching the academy.
The Querétaro project started with regular camps in 2017, serving as a foundation to further develop football players, both boys and girls, in Mexico, a country with a rich football tradition. Partnering with local entity Catalunya Sports, the decision was made to set up a Barça Academy 200 km from Mexico City, the nation’s capital.
Top-Rate Facilities
The boys and girls at Barça Academy Querétaro train in high-level facilities, featuring two natural grass 11-a-side football fields at the Cumbres International School Querétaro. Sergi and other Barça staff who visited the site witnessed firsthand the enthusiasm for being part of the Barça Academy. This program aims to provide comprehensive training for its pupils, expanding the Barça brand and transmitting the club’s philosophy and values worldwide.
