This festival is planned to delight cheese lovers at heart.
Querétaro is a state known for its wine and cheese routes, with regular invitations from wineries for people to learn about the work behind artisanal, aged cheese, or winemaking in some vineyards.
With this in mind, a festival will arrive at Cava Bocanegra at the end of October. It is the Viva el Queso! festival, an event that promises to bring together the best Querétaro expressions of this dairy product in one place. Here are the details.
On the first day of the event, there will be four artisanal cheese tastings from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. These will include Quesos del Rebaño with Vinos Tierra de Peña, led by Gabriela Flores. The second will be Quesos Concursantes del Buen Queso with Apícola La Peña, followed by a tasting with the same cheeses but this time with Freixenet. To end the day, there will be a tasting of Latin American cheeses with Mezcal GAD, led by Cheesemonger Lee Salas. It is important to note that each tasting is limited to 20 people. Additionally, there will be two workshops: the first, “The Art of the Cheesemonger,” from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM; and the second, “Build Your Cheese Board,” from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
On the second day, there will also be tastings, the first of Quesos Rancho Santa Marina with Vermouth, led by Javier Perez Rocha at 12:00 PM. The second will be of Latin American cheeses with Mezcal, by Cheesemonger. The last, at 4:00 PM, will be of Quesos Ganadores Concurso del Buen Queso. This day will also feature workshops: “Innovation in Cheesemaking” and “Build Your Own Cheese Board,” from 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM.
The Concurso del Buen Queso will also take place. “One of the main objectives of this festival is to generate greater knowledge about artisanal cheese in Mexico, so one of the most important activities is the fourth edition of the Concurso del Buen Queso, where producers from all over the Republic can enter their cheeses to be judged by a panel of experts with great experience and knowledge,” explain the organizers on their website.
