Querétaro International Airport announces the opening of two new international routes to Atlanta and Detroit, operated by Aeroméxico, starting in the first quarter of 2024.
The Querétaro International Airport (AIQ) will add two new international routes, to Atlanta and Detroit, starting in the first quarter of 2024, confirmed the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (Sedesu), in a press release.
The two new routes will be operated by Aeroméxico and will have a direct daily frequency, said the secretary of Sedesu, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero.
According to the state secretary, Detroit is a destination of business interest, in addition to serving as one of the most relevant sites for the automotive industry, a predominant sector in the Querétaro economy.
Meanwhile, Atlanta is an international hub for Delta airlines, one of the main airlines in the United States and an ally of Aeroméxico.
With the operation of the two routes, the international connection of the Querétaro airport is strengthened; In addition, he added, the commitment to offering a variety of destinations from this air complex is reinforced.
The opening of the new flights also represents the possibility of reaching more markets and attracting a greater number of international travelers, explained the state Secretary of Tourism, Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado.
“These new routes not only allow us to reach our main source market of international tourists, such as the United States, with greater force, they also allow us to bring Querétaro closer to destinations in Europe and Asia, thanks to the interconnection that the Atlanta airports have as well as Detroit,” declared the secretary.
This Monday Aeroméxico and Delta announced that the Aeroméxico-Delta Joint Collaboration Agreement will expand their operations between Mexico and the United States, of which the two new routes that will operate from the AIQ are part.
Starting in January of next year, Aeroméxico will gradually begin operations on 17 new routes that will originate in seven airports in Mexico, to nine destinations in the neighboring country. All flights will have Delta codeshare.
Given the behavior of passenger mobilization from the AIQ this year, Sedesu plans to close 2023 with 1.6 million travelers, setting a record, in addition to recovering and surpassing pre-pandemic indicators.
Only from January to July of the current year, 929,985 passengers were transported in the AIQ, representing an increase of 40.2% compared to the same period in 2019, when 663,237 passengers were transported, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation ( SICT).
On an annual basis, the airport registered a growth of 52.6%, because from January to July 2022 it transported 609,349 passengers.
Of the total number of travelers who traveled from the AIQ, in the first seven months of the year, 74.8% were national passengers and 25.2% were international.
